Week 2: Complete the home row

Turkish F keyboard course. 10 wpm, 90% accuracy.

Last week you learned the first eight keys of the home row. This week you add three more: ü, t and ş. Together they complete the row, so every key you need from the home position is under your fingers. These keys may look like a small addition, but each one needs its correct finger before the row feels whole.

What you will learn

Three new keys and their fingers:

  • ü: left index
  • t: right index
  • ş: right pinky

Your left index finger now moves between a and ü. Your right index finger works between k and t, and your right pinky works between y and ş. As you learn the new keys, keep using the old ones. Practice them together.

Technique tips

  • Keep the left index finger’s movement short. The distance between a and ü is small, so do not pull the finger far from the home row.
  • When you press ş, move only the right pinky. The other fingers should stay on the home row.
  • When you reach with a finger, move the finger, not the wrist. A still wrist keeps your hands balanced.
  • After you press a new key, bring the finger straight back to its bump. This habit will keep you steady in the speed test.
  • Look at the text on the screen. Even while learning new keys, you do not need to look down at the keyboard.

Lessons

  1. Lesson 1 (10-15 minutes): Learn the new keys. Watch the keyboard demo, follow each finger, and type ü, t and ş five times each.
  2. Lesson 2 (10-15 minutes): Practice. Type short Turkish words that use every home row key, and return your hands to the home row after each word.
  3. Lesson 3 (10-15 minutes): Review and take the 2-minute test. Notice which keys caused mistakes, then practice those keys again.

This week’s goal

Your targets are 10 WPM and 90% accuracy. Finishing the lessons earns 1 star. Reaching the accuracy target earns 2 stars, and reaching the speed target in the closing test earns 3 stars. Typing slowly and cleanly is better than typing fast with mistakes. Catch accuracy first.

New keys this week

The colored keys are the ones you learn this week. The color shows which finger presses the key.
