Week 13: Common words
Turkish F keyboard course. 30 wpm, 94% accuracy.
This week you start typing whole words instead of single keys. Until now you practiced each key on its own. Now the keys follow one another inside words, and your fingers need to prepare the next letter while the current one is still being typed. The goal is a steady rhythm. At the end of each word, bring your hands back to the home row and get ready for the next one.
What you will learn
There are no new keys this week. You learn how to connect the keys you already know:
- Type short words in one smooth rhythm. While you press the current letter, think about the finger for the next one.
- For a capital letter at the start of a word, press Shift before the letter and release it after.
- For a word with punctuation, return your fingers to the word after you type the mark.
Try words such as “ev”, “kitap” and “ağaç” as one movement rather than letter by letter. Do not think about each letter separately. Feel the word as a whole, and the rhythm will settle as you type.
Technique tips
- Prepare for the next word while you finish the current one. Let the finger that will type the first letter of the next word start moving early.
- When you type a familiar word, follow the rhythm rather than looking at each key. Say the word quietly in your head and let your fingers match it.
- Keep your wrists still. As the words get longer, your arms should not tense up. The movement should come from the fingers.
- If you make a mistake, do not stop to fix it right away. Finish the word, then correct it and return to the flow.
- Look at the screen. Following the words with your eyes keeps the flow of your typing steady.
Lessons
- Lesson 1 (10-15 minutes): Learn the word rhythm. Watch the keyboard demo, see how short words are typed as one movement, and repeat a few words.
- Lesson 2 (10-15 minutes): Practice. Type lists of common Turkish words, and return your hands to the home row after each word.
- Lesson 3 (10-15 minutes): Review and take the 2-minute test. Look at the words where you slowed down and practice them again.
This week’s goal
Your targets are 30 WPM and 94% accuracy. Finishing the lessons earns 1 star. Reaching the accuracy target earns 2 stars, and reaching the speed target in the closing test earns 3 stars. Speed comes when the word rhythm settles. Keep your accuracy steady while you practice.
