Week 14: Sentences and rhythm
Turkish F keyboard course. 33 wpm, 95% accuracy.
This week you move from words to sentences. A sentence is a rhythm made of words and punctuation marks working together. When you write a sentence, try to feel the whole of it as one flow rather than thinking about each word separately. Capitals, commas, periods and spaces all need to land in the right place. When they do, your text looks clean and your typing keeps moving.
What you will learn
There are no new keys this week. When you write a sentence, pay attention to three things:
- Type a capital letter at the start of the sentence with Shift. Press Shift before the letter and release it after.
- After a comma, period or colon, return your fingers to the home row so the next word starts from a steady position.
- Leave a space between words, then keep a short pause before you start the next word.
For example, try a sentence such as “Bugün ev sırasını çalıştım, yarın üst sırayı deneyeceğim.” It has a capital letter, a comma and a period. Type it a few times and listen to its rhythm.
Technique tips
- Break the sentence into meaning groups instead of typing word by word. Pause briefly at commas.
- After a space, prepare your fingers for the first letter of the next word. Your hands should move on to the next key without a stop.
- At the end of each sentence, return your fingers to the home row before the next one. This gives the next sentence a clean start.
- Move your fingers, not your wrists. A relaxed wrist keeps the rhythm even over longer sentences.
- Look at the screen rather than the keyboard. Following the sentence with your eyes helps you keep the rhythm.
Lessons
- Lesson 1 (10-15 minutes): Learn sentence rhythm. Watch the keyboard demo, see how a sentence is broken into parts, and type a few short sentences.
- Lesson 2 (10-15 minutes): Practice. Type medium-length sentences with capitals and punctuation, and keep the rhythm steady from one sentence to the next.
- Lesson 3 (10-15 minutes): Review and take the 2-minute test. Check the ends of sentences, where you may have slowed down, and practice those parts again.
This week’s goal
Your targets are 33 WPM and 95% accuracy. Finishing the lessons earns 1 star. Reaching the accuracy target earns 2 stars, and reaching the speed target in the closing test earns 3 stars. Most mistakes in sentences happen with punctuation and capitals. Take your time at the end of each sentence and finish it cleanly.
This week’s lessons
Do the lessons in order. Each one ends with a test, and your best result is saved.
