Week 8: Capitals and Shift
Turkish F keyboard course. 22 wpm, 93% accuracy.
This week you do not learn any new letters. Instead you practice capital letters. Capitals are typed with Shift, and Shift is always pressed with the pinky of the opposite hand. A capital letter typed by your left hand uses your right pinky on Shift. A capital letter typed by your right hand uses your left pinky. The timing feels awkward at first, but the habit settles quickly with practice.
What you will learn
There are no new letter keys this week. You learn how to use Shift:
- For letters typed with the left hand, press Shift with the right pinky.
- For letters typed with the right hand, press Shift with the left pinky.
- Press Shift before the letter, type the letter, then release both together.
For example, to type a capital A, press Shift with your right pinky and then press a with your left index finger. You already know a, so you can focus on the timing of Shift.
Technique tips
- Press Shift before the letter and release it after. This order keeps the capital letter clean.
- The Shift pinky should not disturb the finger that types the letter. Let each finger do its own job.
- Keep the other hand steady. While the left hand types, the right pinky only moves to Shift and then returns.
- Within a word, keep Shift pressed for the whole capital letter, then let it go before the next letter. Build a rhythm and repeat the same movement for each capital.
- Look at the screen and check each capital letter. If you see a mistake, fix it before you continue.
Lessons
- Lesson 1 (10-15 minutes): Learn Shift. Watch the keyboard demo, follow the opposite pinky, and type capitals with the left hand and then with the right hand.
- Lesson 2 (10-15 minutes): Practice. Type short Turkish words that start with a capital letter, such as “Ev”, “Kitap” and “Ağaç”, and watch the timing of Shift on each word.
- Lesson 3 (10-15 minutes): Review and take the 2-minute test. Check which capitals came out late or wrong, and practice those letters again.
This week’s goal
Your targets are 22 WPM and 93% accuracy. Finishing the lessons earns 1 star. Reaching the accuracy target earns 2 stars, and reaching the speed target in the closing test earns 3 stars. Using Shift with the right hand comes before speed. Type capitals slowly and carefully, and the speed will follow.
New keys this week
The colored keys are the ones you learn this week. The color shows which finger presses the key.
