Week 15: Small programs II
JavaScript code typing course. 24 wpm, 94% accuracy.
This week you combine functions, arrays and text in one small program. A function can take a list, work through its items, and return a message built from text. Programs like this are longer and contain more symbols per line than before, so accuracy on each line matters most. Check each line as you finish it, and read the whole program once before you try to type faster.
What you will learn
This week introduces no new symbols. You use parentheses and commas in function definitions, square brackets in lists, and quotes with plus signs in text. When a symbol slows you down, review its key position on the US English layout from the earlier lessons.
No new keywords appear this week. function, return, for and let appear together in one program. A tiny example: function greet(name) { return "Hello " + name; } defines a function on one line.
Technique tips
- Write the function line first, then fill in the body underneath it.
- Open quotes and brackets together with their closing partners, then fill in the middle.
- When Enter moves you to a new line, the indentation is added for you, so check it before you add any more spaces.
- After each long line, look at its ending to spot a missing parenthesis straight away.
- Read the whole program once when you finish it, to catch any symbol you typed wrong.
Lessons
- Learn (10–15 minutes): Watch the keyboard demo for the function, list and text parts, and type each structure on its own.
- Practice (10–15 minutes): Type the whole small program from start to finish three times, checking line endings each time.
- Review (10–15 minutes): Take the two-minute test and focus on one function line and one list line.
This week’s goal
Your targets are 24 WPM and 94% accuracy. Finishing the week earns one star. Reaching 94% accuracy earns two stars, and reaching the speed target as well earns three. One missing quote or bracket can break a long line, so keep each line correct and let your speed rise gradually.
This week’s lessons
Do the lessons in order. Each one ends with a test, and your best result is saved.
