Week 13: Common words
QWERTY touch typing course. 30 wpm, 94% accuracy.
This week the letters you have learned come together as words. You do not learn a new key. Instead, every key from the previous weeks appears in short, familiar words. Words are where typing starts to feel natural, because your fingers begin to move in patterns rather than one key at a time. Speed grows as you repeat these words again and again.
What you will learn
No new keys appear this week, but you will use every key you have learned so far. Your practice includes words such as:
the,and,with,that,for,youthis,from,have,what,when,they- Names that start with a capital letter, such as
AnnaorOliver
Think about which finger owns each letter as you type. In the, for example, t belongs to the left index finger and h to the right index finger. Keeping this in mind helps you avoid hunting for keys.
Technique tips
- Think of each word as one movement rather than separate letters. Let your fingers flow across the word.
- Even in short words, return to the home row between letters when needed. Every key starts and ends at home.
- For names with capital letters, press Shift with the opposite pinky and release it right after the capital.
- Do not push for speed when a word feels unfamiliar. Write it correctly first, then repeat it until the rhythm comes.
Lessons
- Lesson 1, learn (10–15 minutes): Look at the new word groups on screen. Type each word slowly, letter by letter, with the correct finger.
- Lesson 2, practice (10–15 minutes): Repeat the word lists and short phrases. Finish each word with a space before starting the next one.
- Lesson 3, review (10–15 minutes): Repeat the words you got wrong, then finish with the 2-minute test.
This week’s goal
Reach 30 WPM and 94% accuracy. Finishing the lessons earns 1 star. Reaching 94% accuracy earns 2 stars. Reaching 30 WPM as well earns 3 stars. Smooth word typing takes repetition, so be patient and protect your accuracy. Speed will follow as the words become familiar.
This week’s lessons
Do the lessons in order. Each one ends with a test, and your best result is saved.
