Week 15: Paragraphs and stamina

QWERTY touch typing course. 36 wpm, 95% accuracy.

This week you combine everything you have learned into paragraphs. A paragraph is a group of sentences that work together around one idea. Writing one asks for good sentence habits, but it also asks for stamina. You need to keep your attention and your hand position steady for longer than a single sentence. Stamina is the skill that matters most this week.

What you will learn

No new keys appear this week. As you write paragraphs, focus on these habits:

  • Single spaces between words and correct punctuation between sentences.
  • A capital letter at the start of each sentence, using Shift with the opposite pinky.
  • Steady posture across a longer session: relaxed shoulders, floating wrists and feet flat on the floor.

Set a small goal for each paragraph. For example, type the first three sentences cleanly before moving on to the next part.

Technique tips

  • Every five to ten minutes, relax your hands and shoulders. Tension in the wrists and shoulders leads to more mistakes in longer texts.
  • Between sentences, glance away from the screen and let your thumbs rest over the space bar.
  • If your fingers start to feel tired, slow down. A short break is more productive than pushing through a tired session.
  • At the end of each paragraph, read it through from start to finish. A final check is the easiest way to catch errors that built up while you typed.

Lessons

  1. Lesson 1, learn (10–15 minutes): Watch the demo of a paragraph’s structure. Type the sample paragraph slowly to get used to the rhythm between sentences.
  2. Lesson 2, practice (10–15 minutes): Type short paragraphs. Check each one at the end and correct any mistakes you find.
  3. Lesson 3, review (10–15 minutes): Repeat the paragraph where you made the most errors, then finish with the 2-minute test.

This week’s goal

Reach 36 WPM and 95% accuracy. Finishing the lessons earns 1 star. Reaching 95% accuracy earns 2 stars. Reaching 36 WPM as well earns 3 stars. Long texts can pull your attention away from the keys, so take breaks when you need them. Keep accuracy high and the speed will grow.
